In Detail
UNICEF Bangladesh commissioned the Asian Institute of Technology in Thailand, in partnership with UPM Umwelt-Projekt-Management GmbH, to conduct the “Safely Managed On-site Sanitation (SMOSS)” study.
The assignment aimed to identify feasible on-site sanitation technologies for Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), assisting citizens and authorities in adopting appropriate solutions to improve safely managed sanitation in their area.
A key deliverable was a technical guideline that provides an accessible overview of reliable and suitable on-site containment systems, beyond common latrine pits and septic tanks. This guideline allows users to compare and select the most appropriate technology for their needs.
The document presents twelve sanitation technologies in factsheet format, each accompanied by a diagram illustrating its unique process flow. For decision-makers, a comparative analysis table was created, simplifying complex technical information into a clear, easy-to-understand format.
